Är den europeiska drömmen sann?

Hur hanterar Europa att hundratusentals personer vill lämna hopplösheten i Afrika och ta sig till Europa? Det är en jätteviktig fråga som inte kommer att minska i betydelse. I går visade Dokument Utifrån, SVT, dokumentären Europa tur och retur som går att se en vecka framåt på SVT play.

Jag har tidigare skrivit om ett reportage om den europeiska drömmen i Times. Nu tipsar Radio Nederland om ett projekt, Suprising Europe, som syftar till att informera afrikanska migranter om att den europeiska drömmen inte alltid är sann.

The streets are paved with gold and money grows on trees. As soon as you arrive you can start living the good life. This is Europe, seen through African eyes. Less well known in Africa is the hard reality of life in Europe as an immigrant without a passport. The image of the European dream is hard to contend with, as the Ugandan Ssuuna Golooba has found out. His efforts to open African eyes are backed by the Netherlands.

With a Dutch friend of his, who is a filmmaker, Mr Golooba decided to make a documentary about his experience in the Netherlands, as a warning to Africans saving to make the journey. The collaboration has now resulted in the media project Surprising Europe. It includes a website documenting the stories of countless migrants, and a seven-part television series, aimed at showing an African audience the reality of existence as an illegal immigrant in Europe.
